Drawing Nature – Field Sketching in the Sonoran Desert
Location: Desert Discovery Center, Tucson Mountain Park, AZ
Instructor: Lee Ann Woolery
Explore the desert through artists’ eyes. Before photography, many scientists were skilled as both artist and scientist, observing and recording nature in the field. The Tucson Mountain Field Station at Desert Discovery Center is surrounded by an ancient saguaro cactus forest. We’ll meet there to explore sensory-based field sketching as a way to learn about and connect more deeply with the desert. Learn how to translate the stories of giant saguaros and gila woodpeckers. All levels of experience welcome. Materials fee ($10) payable at first class or bring your own. Materials list forwarded after registration. 
Ages 18 & Up.

Cienega Creek Natural Preserve is known for its perennial stream and lush riparian vegetation. We’ll meet there to explore sensory-based field sketching as a way to learn about and connect more deeply with the desert. Learn how to translate the stories of rippling waters, the canyon wren and fremont cottonwoods. All levels of experience welcome. Materials fee ($10) payable at first class or bring your own. Materials list forwarded after registration. Ages 18 & Up.

Feliz Paseos Park, Tucson, AZ

Explore the desert through artists’ eyes. Before photography, many scientists were skilled as both artist and scientist, observing and recording nature in the field. Feliz Paseos Park is set in the rolling foothills of the Tucson Mountains surrounded by century old saguaros. We’ll meet there to explore sensory-based field sketching as a way to learn about and connect more deeply with the desert. Learn how to translate the stories of lizards, bobcats, prickly pear, and all manner of native birds. All levels of experience welcome. Materials fee ($10) payable at first class or bring your own. Materials list forwarded after registration. Ages 18 & Up. Registration fee - $45 per workshop.
